Stabilizing

16MR08 – stabilizing

If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters
There's lots of those friendly people
Showin me ways to go
And I never want to lose your inspiration
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life
is so pre-arranged
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Well I was born in the sign of water
And it's there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales
they are my brothers
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Starin' at the full moon
like a lover
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life
is so prearranged
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Well I've never been romantic
And sometimes I don't care
I know it may sound selfish
But let me breathe the air
If there's one thing in my life that's missing
It's the time that I spend alone
Sailing on the cool and bright clear waters
It's kind of a special feeling
When you're out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon like a lover
Time for
a cool change...
I know that it's time
for a cool change
Now that my life is so prearranged
I know that it's time
for a cool change

We went out today to try and find ourselves. We found the Jumbo supermarket and the school and two churches and a piazza and the central park with the big church with the world’s oldest clock in it. We missed the procession this morning – I guess I kind of knew about it, but I just needed to relax a little longer. In retrospect, I’m sure we should have gone, but I wasn’t sure where or when, and I didn’t feel like running out and being disappointed.

We stopped at the central park and took pictures and ate tortillas with beef and they were delicious. We walked home and stopped at a cute little hotel to check the prices. It was very basic, a very tiny room with a bed and a chair, shared bathrooms and showers ouside. Parking was in the gated courtyard. It was $150 Lempiras (less than $10 per night) for a couple. We walked quite a bit and I think I can find my way around. This week, I hope to go out and go further every day. The market is quite a distance, but I should be able to walk there and take a taxi home. In the daytime, taxis are 15L per person. Like busses in Toronto, it does not matter how far you are going, you pay one fare per person. Punam also told me that if I give the driver another 15L he will carry my groceries to my apartment – or at least the heavy things like the giant jug of water.

I have found an internet place nearby – the going rate seems to be 20L/hour. I will bring my computer there today and try to post all of my blogs so far. I will not be able to post until next week, as everything will be closed after today for Holy Week. Which reminds me, I better check if Jumbo will be closed, and if little variety stores will be closed. Do I have to get all my food for next week today?

Even by Toronto standards, my little apartment is nice. The living room is about 10’x13’ with a 9’x4’ kitchen separated by a half wall, 13’x10’ bedroom with a 8’x 4’ bathroom which includes a large 4’x3’ shower with sliding frosted glass doors. I also have a 2’x4’ storage room beside the bathroom. The entire apartment is tiled with terra cotta coloured ceramic – very much like my kitchen at home. The walls are concrete and have a white chair rail running around them. In the bedroom and bathroom, the walls are painted peach below the chair rail and yellow ochre above and in the living room and kitchen they are a pastel olive below the chair rail and beige above. Fluorescent lighting seems to be all they use here, but it is not nearly so annoying as it would be at home because of the bright sunlight.

Well – off to do my posts – let’s hope I can hook up my own computer so I don’t have to re-type everything!
